Scope and Contents

The bulk of the records in this collection document the production process of hundreds of plays performed by the Saint Louis University Theatre Department since its inception in 1946. Additional materials include administrative records related to play production and departmental affairs, master's theses produced by graduate students in the department, and a restricted series of student records. Also included is one artifact, a circa-1964 painting depicting Richard Burton as Hamlet.

Since they were the personal accumulation of an individual professor, they were separated from the Historical Records to become a manuscript collection. Scope and Contents The Wilhem H. Bauer Collection contains objects from a medical doctor and Director of Pathology at Saint Louis University’s Dental School. Born to a Jewish mother, Bauer immigrated to the United States after Nazi persecution and accepted a position at Saint Louis University. Bauer was also known for his friendship with Kurt von Schuschnigg, chancellor of Austria in the 1930s and a friend from Innsbruck whom Bauer invited to teach at Saint Louis University in the 1940s.
