Pope Pius XII Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of the zucchetto of Pope Pius XII, along with a signed card verifying authenticity.
Pope Pius XII, born as Eugenio Maria Giuseppe Giovanni Pacelli in 1876, served as Pope from 1939 until his death in 1958. Pius XII Memorial Library of Saint Louis University was opened in 1959. This hat, known as a zucchetto, is a skull cap worn by Catholic clergy, with white zucchettos reserved for Popes. Accompanying the zucchetto is a card verifying authenticity signed by the Papal Chamberlain, dated May 3rd, 1958, as well as an additional card with an English translation.
