The bulk of the records in this collection document the production process of hundreds of plays performed by the Saint Louis University Theatre Department since its inception in 1946. Additional materials include administrative records related to play production and departmental affairs, master's theses produced by graduate students in the department, and a restricted series of student records. Also included is one artifact, a circa-1964 painting depicting Richard Burton as Hamlet.
Please consult the Boleslaus Lukaszewski (Father Luke) Photograph Collection (AVA PHO 1) and the Public Relations (MarComm) Photograph Collection for additional photographic materials related to the Theatre Department. The Saint Louis University Historical Records collection (DOC REC 1, series 13) may also be consulted for materials related to dramatic productions performed prior to the creation of the Theatre Department in 1946. Finally, the Saint Louis University Yearbook Collection and the University News Collection contain a wealth of coverage related to the University Theatre.
Access to the majority of the collection is unrestricted. However, Series 4, Student Records, is restricted from public access. If you are looking for a copy of your own student records, please contact the SLU Registrar's office.
These records were transmitted to the Saint Louis University Archives by the Saint Louis University Theatre Department, a division of the Fine and Performing Arts Department in the College of Arts and Sciences.
